Electronic Brake

BMW 7 Series

Features

The electronic parking brake, operated via the dashboard, provides maximum convenience as an automatic handbrake, requiring virtually no effort from the driver.

This sophisticated brake system not only performs its primary function during parking but also offers two additional benefits: Auto Stop and Hill Hold.

The Auto Stop function automatically applies the brake to keep the vehicle stationary when needed, so the driver doesn’t have to keep their foot on the brake to prevent the usual ‘creeping’ during idling, as is common with traditional automatic transmissions.

When starting to move, the brake is automatically released as soon as the driver presses the accelerator pedal.

The Hill Hold function automatically applies and releases the brake on slopes to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward.

When the engine is running, the parking brake operates hydraulically entirely through the DSC pump.

On the other hand, when the engine is off, the parking brake is electronically and mechanically applied via a traditional cable connected to the dual servo parking brake on the rear axle.

For safety, the system is designed to prevent the driver from accidentally releasing the brake while the engine is still running and the driver is exiting the vehicle.

Necessity of Electronic Brake

In heavy traffic conditions, driver fatigue mainly results from the overuse of the right foot,
which rarely gets a chance to rest.

While driving, the accelerator must be pressed,
and even when stopped, the brake pedal must be held down.

Although some drivers use the side brake in such situations,
most keep pressing the brake pedal continuously, focusing on maintaining pressure.

The electronic parking brake holds the brake for the driver during stops,
allowing for a more comfortable and safer driving experience.

Auto Hold for Driver’s Rest

When you stop by pressing the brake with your constantly used right foot, the brake is automatically held, allowing you to rest comfortably anywhere, whether on a hill or flat ground.

01

Hill-hold function

When starting on a slope of about 30%, the vehicle does not roll back at all, making it an essential feature for beginners, women, those with right-foot fatigue, and people with disabilities.

02

Neck support function

When the vehicle is stationary, all four wheels are locked, which helps prevent neck injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.

Technical Specifications of Electronic Brake

What is an Electronic Parking Brake (Auto Hold)? (Optional)
The electronic parking brake automatically holds the brake when the vehicle is stopped
and releases it when the accelerator is pressed,
preventing the car from rolling backward on hills and allowing the driver to rest their right foot during traffic jams.
It is a safety convenience feature for vehicles.
The electronic parking brake system uses a computer to monitor the vehicle’s speed,
engine RPM, and brake status while stopped.
It engages the brake based on how much the driver presses the brake pedal,
so the driver does not need to keep their foot on the brake while stopped.
By relieving concerns about holding the brake while stopped,
the system helps drivers operate their vehicle more safely.
Therefore, it is an essential feature for automatic transmission vehicles.
While driving, the computer detects the vehicle speed and prevents the electronic parking brake from activating when the vehicle is in motion.
It only operates when the engine is running, the vehicle is stopped, and the brake pedal is pressed.
